This is an old flier I found that was used to market a taped version of the seminar. The speakers came from all over the country as this was one of the first times this kind of group came together at a seminar.
One of the key speakers, Brian Horen, from Merganthaler Linotype, the granddaddy of the typesetting industry, based in NY, said during the seminar, “This is an industry that didn’t change for almost a hundred years. And in the last 10 years, all of a sudden, the changes are coming every day.” And he was right. I witnessed many large and established companies throughout the Bay Area close up shop during that period. Their massive, heavy metal, typsetting machines became totally obsolete within a few year period.
